I don't actually believe in motivation.

You can't rely on motivation to get you where you want to go. If I waited for motivation to kick in everyday when I get up, I definitely wouldn't be where I am right now (and I still have so much further to go).

It's like when you want to work out. Sometimes you'll feel like you really want to do it. You might even feel excited to work out for a week straight! But then you get to the end of the week and you start to feel less excited… like your motivation is lacking. Then you stop working out and complain that you're “lacking motivation." Really, what you need is to continue to show up, even on the days you don't want to. Showing up is HARD. It takes so much resilience.

Resilience is what I believe in. It's those of us who keep getting up, and keep going, even on the days where things feel hard. Even when you send 100 emails, and get no responses (that's been me this week). Even when you look at your portfolio and hate everything in it. You just need to keep going.

I'm sorry that I haven't got a more useful answer to this question. I wish I did! I really wish I could say to you: “Do this, and you'll find it so much easier.” But the only thing that I can tell you is to keep going, keep showing up, and keep working hard. It will pay off in the long run.
