Helpful Resources for Fashion Photographers

Keeping this weeks blog post short and sweet, and just bringing you a few links to resources that I think you’ll find useful as a fashion photographer. Let me know if you’d like to see more posts like this leaving a comment :)

  1. Lighting People by Rossella Vanon {affiliate link} - This is a book that I ended up buying on Kindle, which is all about studio lighting for people. Rossella is an amazingly talented fashion photographer that I've followed for years, and she's super talented in the studio. I've been researching some new techniques in the studio, and stumbled on this book on Amazon during some research. I'm not finished with it yet, but so far its been really helpful! If you want to learn more about lighting in the studio, I can highly recommend it.

  2. Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port {affiliate link} - I've been reading this book for the last week, and I'm almost done with it. If you need a crash course in how to best go about finding your clients, this is a good one. There are some elements of it which wouldn't work for fashion photographers (i.e. the newsletter system he describes at one point isn't what I would advise) but its definitely got a lot of good things about it!

  3. Instagram Ads - This is a funny one, but this last week I have discovered SO MANY new brands that I'm going to pitch myself to just by paying closer attention to the ads that Instagram shows me - particularly through Instagram Stories. I get quite a lot of ads now, and I've been "training" the adverts algorithm by clicking on to go to the profiles of brands that I think are relevant to my work. As a results, it's been showing me so many more Instagram ads of fashion brands that I'd love to shoot for. I save them all into a folder in my Instagram Saves folders, and I'm going to sit down next week to begin pitching. Worth doing the same for you!

  4. Strobist - this blog is really old (and it looks it too), but its packed full of amazing help for lighting.

  5. Jamie Windsor's Youtube Channel - I really love this guys videos. They're always so beautifully put together, and can be really thought provoking. If you're in the Facebook Group, you'll have seen me share a few of them before. This one is my favourite.
