One Weekly Task That Could Change Your Fashion Photography Career

Thank you so much to those of you who joined Pitching With Confidence last weekend, I really appreciate it.

With pitching in mind, I wanted to share an activity with you all that's proven to be a real game changer for me in my career.

You know those days when you have no “immediate” tasks that you need to do, and you're sitting at your laptop wondering what you should do? They happen less frequently for me these days, but they do still happen. And when I was in the early stages of my career, I definitely had a lot of days (sometimes weeks) where I didn't have many shoots booked, or much work to do.

So what did I do on those days? And what do I suggest that you do?

One of my favourite tasks is this:

Write a list of 10 brands, 10 magazines, and 10 production agencies/producers that I'd love to work with, and I make it my job to reach out to all of them before the week is over. It sounds really simple, but if you do this frequently enough, you'll be regularly reaching out to a lot of people.

Also, setting a goal of 10 people at once is enough to feel like you've done something significant, but not so much that it's overwhelming and you don't achieve anything at all.

If you've got some quiet time, I'd highly recommend creating your own list. You might only have time to make a list of 5 people.. that doesn't matter. What's important is to set yourself a goal, give yourself something to focus and tick off for the week, and get something productive done that will move things forward for you.

Let me know how you get on!
