What Is A Couple Photoshoot With Me Actually Like?
Sometimes, when I mention to people that I'm a photographer, I see them wince in pain a little bit. It breaks my heart (only a tiny bit!) because I know that a lot of people have never really had a good experience in front of a camera. Some people have been incredibly traumatised by previous photography experiences, and when I try to explain to people that having their photograph taken doesn't need to be scary, they almost don't believe me! So in today's post, I wanted to break down exactly what it's like to have your photographs taken by me!
1. I Promise I Won't Make You Self Conscious: I get it, I'm a shy person to, so I won't ever ask you to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. If you ever feel embarrassed to do something, I can tell, so I won't make you do it, it's as simple as that! My goal is always to make you the experience of being photographed fun, enjoyable and comfortable at all times.
2. I Promise I Won't Make You Pose Awkwardly: You know the photos you had taken at school, where you had to sit on a stool in a really awkward position, and grin madly at the camera while all your school friends watched you? Yeah, I won't make you do that! In fact, I'll try to NEVER pose you. In fact, I give you actions (like: please walk that way, or: tell each other a joke) and I capture those moments, instead of the stiff poses.
3. I Promise I'll Take You Somewhere Quiet: I try my hardest to do my couple sessions in quiet places where there are few people. There is nothing worse than being watched by a crowd of people (guess what - I hate it too! So I do it as much for me as I do it for you!), so most of my shoots take place in remote places, or towards the end of the day when there are fewer people out and about. Of course, if you're a super confident couple who are totally cool with being photographed, and you WANT to be shot in a more crowded environment, we can do that too! But I'll never make you do that unless you want to.
4. I Promise To Take Control: I don't want you to worry about anything during our session. This time is for you and your partner. It's a time for you both to relax, and enjoy one anothers company. I will make all the decisions (with your input, of course!) about when we move to another location, or what action we do. I'll ask you if you have anything specific in mind, but if you don't, thats ok! It's my job to know what to do, to work the light and to capture the love between the two of you.
5. I Promise To Make You Look Amazing: Now, I'm not saying that men don't know how to make women look amazing (because they totally do!) but I've always found that as a woman, I'm able to have a certain affinity to how other women want to look. I know you don't want a double chin, I know you don't want that bra strap showing, I know you want me to capture your best angles, so I can assure you that I'll look out for those things, and make sure to capture you in the most flattering, amazing way I know how!
6. I Promise To Make You Laugh: I'm not the best comic in the world, it doesn't come to me very naturally, but over the years I've come up with a few tricks that I KNOW will make people laugh. Why would I want to make you laugh? Because laughter makes everyone happy, makes everyone relax, and makes for some of the most beautiful, natural photographs ever! So I can guarantee you that I'll make you laugh during our session.
