What Is Inspiring Me At The Moment?
I feel like it happens to all creatives; we drop in and out of inspiration. In my case, that happens a lot, but when I start to feel inspired again, it can be extremely fun. A year and a half ago, wedding dresses were inspiring me SO much (and they still do) and I went through a period of immersing myself in looking at images of the wedding industry.
Although all of those things still do inspire me, I've moved on a bit now, and I'm looking at other things too. I wanted to share a few of those with you!
1. Water: I've always been incredibly drawn to water, but recently more so than normal. I find myself wanting to photograph it constantly, walk along the sea shore multiple times a week, and find ways of incorporating it into everything I do.
2. Yoga: If you read my blog post last week, you'll have seen that I've recently been loving a bunch of yoga practitioners on Instagram. That stems from the fact that I've recently gotten back into yoga, but this time it feels different. I've been "practicing yoga" since I was 18 years old. After I moved to Falmouth, and didn't have a horse to ride, I began to explore new exercise for the first time, and yoga was one of them. I enjoyed it, but never fully connected. Being naturally flexible, I found it easy to get into a lot of poses.
Fast forward to today, I'm almost 25, and after a recent episode of back pain, a desire to feel more calm but still exercise, yoga was calling to me. I've been attending a few classes every week, as well as practicing at home, and I can't begin to tell you how inspiring it is to me!
3. Slow Living: You might roll your eyes at this one, because for quite a long time, I slightly rolled my eyes at the term too. I just felt like it wasn't something that I could relate to! Why would I want to live life slowly? It didn't click with me.
Until now...
This year, I wanted 2017 to be my year of calm. I've had moments of lovely calm, but also moments of high stress, and days where my mind just won't shut down. (Anna described this the other day as "scribbles in your head." She was describing how she thinks her dog's brain would look... but it also perfectly describes how mine can be sometimes!) Anyway, I've been taking a lot more time to slow down, to meditate every morning, to take long baths, to read in bed for an hour, to not glorify the word busy...and it's glorious.
4. Still Life Photography: Can you see a theme here? I think I can, and its one of stillness (or at least, trying to be!). I've been looking at a lot more still life photography lately, and I'm definitely drawn to it more and more. It's not something I have a lot of knowledge on, and I'm learning as I go. I've been taking time a few times a week to grab stuff around our home, and practice photographing it. It's fun, and reminds me of my first few years within photography, where things were new and unknown.
I'm really drawn to photographing flowers, but don't really know how to style them. Are there rules? I have no idea, but I'm just playing, seeing what I think looks good, and enjoying the process!
