Walks, Talks and Dharma's
One of the best bits of being freelance is without a doubt to be able to manage your own time. My time means more to me than anything else, and I love that I have freedom to meet up with friends for an hour at 2pm on a Tuesday if that's what I feel like doing.
So last week, that's exactly what my friend, Alex, and I did.
Alex also writes a blog, and works as a stylist and event designer; so we have quite a lot in common! She's also an incredibly talented photographer, so definitely take some time to check out her beautfiul blog "On Serpentine Shores" if you haven't already.
Alex and I tend to chat about all kinds of things on our walks, but this time Alex told me all about a book called "The Great Purpose Of Your Life" by Stephen Cope*. When Alex began talking about this book, her face lit up, literally. I could tell it had been somewhat life changing for her, and she began to explain to me that it revolved around the topic of "discovering what your Dharma is."
Now, if you've never heard the word "Dharma" you may be very confused. Essentially, dharma is a Sanskrit word which has no literal translation, but means something along the lines of "vocation" or "sacred duty."
So essentially, this book is entirely about discovering your life purpose. Deep, I know. But oh so up my street!
Alex loved it, and has been using this books wisdom since she finished it. I, of course, have now purchased it and am beginning to make my way through it. I'll come back to you when I've finished it and let you know my thoughts!
To swiftly move onto other topics, here's something I rarely talk about on my blog, but is something that childhood me would have been all over: blogging about my clothes.
I haven't ever really done many "outfit" posts on here. That amazes me, because between the ages of 15 and 20, all I ever wanted to do was read about fashion, I adored everything about picking outfits in the mornings, and shopping was definitely a favourite pass time. I've somewhat managed to get better control over my shopping habits (not perfected though!), and I now have a closet of clothes I love.
I've also been very lucky recently to be gifted beautiful items by brands to use in photoshoots. Although the purpose of these clothes is not necessarily for them to be worn and photographed on me, once I've used them for shoots, the reality is that I DO wear them... so why not share them as well?
This dress is from one of my favourite brands, Hush, and I bought this for myself a few weeks ago. Its probably becoming pretty obvious by now that I have an obsession with all things "star" and "cosmic" so this dress was a no brainer. It's amazing quality, and the perfect autumn winter dress.
I'm also wearing this super cute little bag from White Stuff. I've had a brown satchel for years, but it was on its way out. This one couldn't have arrived at a better time! Stay tuned to see the images I shot for White Stuff very soon.
And lastly, we need to discuss these boots from Oak and Hyde. If you follow me on Instagram, then over the summer you may have noticed my obsession with a pair of sandals I bought. They were Oak and Hyde. A few months later, and I'm now super excited to work alongside Oak and Hyde to create some imagery for them too.
