The Love List | June
How are we already six months into 2017? I really can't quite grasp how fast this year is going, and I think I've heard plenty of people say this, but it seems that the older I get, the faster time is flying. I must be having fun!
As usual, I thought I'd finish off the month with a love list, ie. things I've been loving throughout the past month!
Favourite Book:You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero*
You'll have heard me talk about this book lots recently, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's in this months love list! Because I already wrote about this book in my previous post "5 Books that Every Business Woman Should Read" I won't bore you with it again... simply click here to read that post!
Favourite Podcast: The Lavendaire Lifestyle
The Lavendaire Lifestyle is a self development podcast, with tips on how to live your life to the fullest! I know what you're thinking: how cheesy. You're probably even rolling your eyes! But Aileen, the girl behind this podcast, is incredibly sweet, I believe she's only in her mid twenties, and she shares a lot of really lovely tips, interviews super interesting women, and keeps her episodes quite short (between 20-30 minutes). They're just nice, chilled out, uplifting podcasts to listen to! I also recommend checking out her Youtube channel and blog.
Favourite Youtube Chanel:Mango Street
If you're at all interested in photographer, whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned pro, you'll LOVE "Mango Street." Founded by a young couple, who are seriously good photographers, they share short (5-10 minute) tutorials about how to improve your photography, and they're most creative, entertaining tutorials I've ever seen online, and they're REALLY good ones. So many tutorials on photography are repetitive and don't actually give you much more than surface info; these guys are much better than that. I highly recommend giving them a watch!
Favourite Film:The Queen of Katwe
I'd never heard of "The Queen of Katwe" until Tom discovered it in our Sky Cinema selection. It was a super cold afternoon (ie. 12°C in June), raining, and windy. Let's face it, we weren't going anywhere! The description of the film sounded really nice, and we really just wanted to watch something uplifting and happy. This film did just that! All about a young Ugandan girl called Phiona, who learns how to play Chess thanks to a man who works for the local ministry, she goes on to become quite the champion, winning competitions worldwide, and in turn, earning enough money to take her family out of poverty. It's a true story, and really is lovely. If you want something nice to watch, I highly recommend!
Favourite Instagram Account:Freja Dowson
I discovered Freya Dowson via "From Roses," a blog I really love. Rebecca, the blogger behind From Roses, shared a post a few days ago with some of her favourites, and a Youtube video by Freya was in that. I watched it, and was totally absorbed by her story. I then went onto check out her Instagram and her blog, and they're both lovely. Freya is a travel photographer who shoots mainly for Non Profits, and her work is stunning. She does a lot of work focused on animals, and many of you know how much of an animal lover I am, so her work is incredibly captivating to me. It also makes me dream of hot, sunny, warm lit days. Check her out, you won't regret it!
Favourite Adventure: Shooting for Joules and Needle and Thread + The Heatwave
It was hard to pick just one fun adventure for the month of June, but two came extremely close! First was the heatwave we had for a week or so, which truly rocked my world. I'd never seen heat or sunshine like it in Cornwall before (let's be honest, I don't think many people had!) and I tried to make the most out of it as I could. I spent *too many* hours laying on our balcony in the sun, reading my books, there were countless boat outings, many beach trips, and a whole lot of smiling. The truth is, those sorts of temperatures are what I grew up with during the summer. Many people don't realise that Switzerland actually has very hot summers, and I'd say it's the only thing that makes living in Cornwall hard sometimes. I definitely miss my Swiss summers.
Second, was my evening shooting for Joules, as well as creating some images for Needle and Thread. It was just Ione, Jessie and I, on the beach, playing with props and clothes, laughing and joking, and making really lovely photographs. I say it a lot, but I really do thrive on shoots when it's super laid back, with people on set that I have a strong bond with. If all my shoots could be like this one, I'll be a happy girl!
