Instagram Caption Ideas for Fashion Photographers
Ugh, we all get it, don’t we? Opening up the Instagram app to post a photo, and staring at that blinking curser, not having a CLUE what to say underneath our image. The amount of times I’d been tempted to just add in a random emoji and press “post” in unreal. However, I know, and you know, that that doesn’t really create much value, does it?! So the truth is that we need to actually say something interesting in as many of our Instagram posts as possible. So here’s a list of caption ideas and prompts which will hopefully get rid of that dreaded Instagram caption block.
Tell the story behind the image: What happened on the shoot? Do you have a funny story to tell?
Share something you learnt while shooting this image. Maybe something didn’t go to plan, but because of that you know what to do next time. Share that!
Share a fact about yourself: Don’t forget that everyone wants to know who you are just as much as they love your images. Tell them something about you.
Ask your followers for advice. People LOVE to help other people. Ask for book recommendations, camera recommendations, lens recommendations… whatever you want. Ask a question, and you’ll get answers!
Share a relevant quote. Cheesy, but it still works, and when your mind really is blank, looking at the subject of your image and Googling for a relevant quote makes sense. Key word here is RELEVANT. Don’t just chuck in any old random quote just because.
Write a fill in the blank caption. This is another great one to get engagement up a bit (which will boost your posts in the algorithm!) Try something like: “My favourite fashion photographer is ___________” and tell your followers to fill in the blank!
Write an A, B, C post: similar to the fill in the blank, this one is like a poll (which performs so well in Stories) but on the grid! An A, B, C could be something like this by my friend ByRosanna:
8. Write about current events: Has something happened in the world that you feel you’ve got a point of view on? Share that with your followers.
9. Share a tip: You don’t need to be an educator to share the odd tip and trick with your followers. Sharing what you know on Instagram shows to your clients that you’re an expert in your field, but will also be really appreciated by the photographers who follow you as well.
10. Introduce yourself to your followers: Every couple of months I like to share an “introduction” post, because if 100 people have recently followed me, the likelihood is that they may know nothing about me! Share 5 fun facts about yourself so that people can get to know you better.
11. Share the first job you ever had. This is always a funny one for so many people!
12. What advice would you give your younger self? If you could tell yourself anything, what would it be? Share that!
13. Ask for inspiring new accounts: Again, people love to help, so ask your followers for some inspiring new accounts to follow.
14. Who’s your dream client? Put it out there, and who knows… it may just happen!
15. Do you have any hidden talents your followers might not know of? Share them!
16. Into astrology? Or maybe its personality tests? Share your star sign or your myers briggs personality type and ask your followers to share theirs with you, too.
17. Share 3 things you’re grateful for. Then ask your followers to share what they’re grateful for, as well.
18. First ever camera. Mine was a Nikon D80 but it might be fun to find out what everyone else used!
19. Photoshop trick: Learnt something new on photoshop that you didn’t know about before? Share it.
20. Share your favourite iPhone or iPad apps. Everyone loves to get nerdy about apps, I know I do, so share your favs!
I could honestly go on and on, but hopefully this has given you a couple of ideas on what to share next time you need to post on Instagram!
